What to do after you get engaged:
Right, so you are engaged, but what now!?? Here are a couple of tips to set you at ease and enjoy the journey leading up to your big day:
- RELAX, enjoy being engaged first
This is a really exciting time in your relationship, you are finally ready to plan your future together as husband and wife 🙂
- Have a conversation about the vision for the day
Sit down and chat how do you see your wedding day play out. Do you want a big wedding? Would you like a morning or afternoon ceremony?
So many things to consider! Make sure that your decisions will suit you as the couple. Of course, keep your family in mind, but the day is about you two becoming one.
- Create a Pinterest board
A great place for inspiration! Create boards for your decor, dress etc. You will soon see what style you like more and how you want your day to look
- What are your priorities
This is one of the most important steps! Each of you can write down what your top 5 prioritiest are for your day; is it your decor, dress, photography (of course 😉 ), or spending lots of time with your guests (always a must!)?
- Plan your wedding budget
Setting up a clear budget will help to avoid any unnecessary arguments (we all get stressed under pressure). Of course you cannot set up a clear budget if you haven’t done the next step. But you will know how much you have to spend.

- Do research and ask for quotes from ALL vendors
Completing this step will help you set up a realistic budget. Maybe you thought you only want to spend R10 000 on your flowers, but now you see that the average cost is R15 000. First asking for quotes BEFORE you start booking vendors will help to coordinate your budget to match your priorities for the day.
- DON’T book your venue before receiving quotes from all wedding vendors
Yes, it is true! You should not book your venue before you know how much all the other vendors will cost you. If you go ahead and book an expensive venue, you will then be left with less money to spend on other vendors. Which will lead to you asking for discount to try and fit everything into your budget.
- Meet different service providers on video call/over a cup of coffee
Once you have a few quotes from all the different vendors, make sure to setup a call with them. You truly want to work with vendors who will understand what your needs are for your wedding day. You want to work with professional and experienced service providers who will lighten the load for you and give you a stress-free experience.
Were these tips helpful? I am sure they will help you in your wedding planning process 🙂
