I knew Robbie & Mandy’s wedding was going to be special from the first time we met.
They love each other with a genuine love that is so inspiring to witness. Their wedding day was filled with special things that meant something to them – even the meals were chosen to represent some of their favourite dishes (as the are avid foodies 🙂 )
How they met: “We were working together at a company in Worcester. He introduced himself to me the one day and I remember thinking “now this is the kind of guy I would marry” and then we chatted every day in passing. Eventually I (Mandy) invited Robbie out to movies with family as “friends” but he turned me down because he was seeing someone at the time. Things didn’t work out with them and so he then asked me out, this time I turned him down, I decided he had his chance but he was extremely persistent and would come to my desk every day asking when we were going for drinks. Eventually I said yes and we went on our first date. We talked for hours and hours and the rest is history, he completely swept me off my feet.”

The proposal: “Robbie’s parents have a house in Franskraal and every time we are all there as a family, the siblings and partners always go down to this spot we dubbed “memories” it’s on the beach and we always go make boerewors rolls there and swim.
On this particular long weekend we were all at Franskraal together again as a family and so we decided to go to our spot. When we got there his sister and boyfriend ‘forgot’ the meat at home, so they left to fetch it leaving us at the spot alone. I got settled in my chair ready to read my book and Robbie told me to get up. He was standing behind me at the time and I remember getting so annoyed with him as I couldn’t understand for what reason I needed to get up. But he insisted, so I stood up and and as I walked forward he walked in front of me and went down on one knee and popped the question. I was completely surprised and was not expecting it at all. His family then all came down and joined us for champagne on the beach. It was really special and unique!”
Love this photo below that Kirsten, my assistant, took 🙂
Sneaky talks with Robbie 🙂

Most memorable wedding planning moments: “Our visits to Oom Daniel, our dominie, in Stellenbosch, it was a monthly road trip we did for our premarital training. This was a special time that really brought us closer together, we found the sessions very encouraging and learnt so much about marriage and each other. It reminded us in the chaos of organizing the wedding, what getting married actually was about and encouraged such great conversations.”
Wedding planning advice: “1. You don’t need a year to plan a wedding, unless it’s for financial reasons. 2. Look at your calendar and schedule things in every weekend over a couple of months, give yourself weekends off that way you aren’t left cramming everything in in the last few months. Have evenings where you ban wedding talk – the wedding can start to consume your life.”
