There are many reasons why Bosduifklip Restaurant is one of the best wedding venues in the Western Cape, but my main reason would be that this place is where my heart is. I was only 2 years old when my parents started the restaurant. My husband and I also said our vows here in 2012 🙂
Here is a bit of history on how Bosduifklip started:
Bosduifklip is a family business, run by Kobus and Aletta Engelbrecht. They were married in 1978 and are the parents of four daughters (I am the youngest 😉 ).
The name Bosduifklip was given to the huge formation by Kobus’ grandmother because of a large colony of rock pigeons that had their nests on the rocks.
During the years the open air section was used for informal parties and family occasions. First in December 1967 for Kobus’ eldest brother’s engagement party and then also when Kobus held his 21st birthday party there on 18 December 1971.
Planning for the restaurant started in 1990 followed by the doors officially being opened on 15 August 1991.
| 5 reasons why Bosduifklip is one of the best wedding venues in the Western Cape |
1.Dream Location Like No Other
Bosduifklip is situated on a farm 5km outside Lambert’s Bay. The restaurant boasts with age old rock formations around which the restaurant is built. The open-air section looks out over the ‘vlei’, where there are more than 40 bird species who nest in the reeds. And the sunset from here is remarkable.
You will arrive here and instantly know you are somewhere breathtaking you haven’t been before.
During the day you are able to see the fascinating rocks in detail, hear the birds sing (and some sheep bleat) and be enchanted by the views.
At night, when the lights are turned on, you will have a feeling of ‘WOW, this place is exceptional…’
2.Ceremony Locations
There is more than one location you can choose from at the venue to have your wedding ceremony. You can even host it on the beach just 5km away.
3.Reception Locations
There are two locations for your wedding reception; open-air and a roofed part. Both can seat +/- 140 guests.
The open-air section is used for summer weddings, and the roofed part is perfect for a cozy winter wedding.
Both sections have rustic & quirky tree stumps as tables & chairs (although you can hire in any other chair you desire).
There are 3 dance floors (with one being in the roofed section).
4.The Wedding Menu Feast
Let me tell you, this menu is mouth-watering! My mom & dad, with their kitchen staff, prepare the most delicious farm & seafood dishes.
To name just a few of my favourites; Seafood Paella, Lamb on the spitbraai, ‘Roosterkoeke’ (small bread rolls), ‘Souskluitjies’ (a local South African dessert with a cinnamon taste).
Their full wedding menu consists of 20+ delectable dishes.
You know what my favourite part is of the buffet at Bosduifklip? You dish up yourself, as many times as you like(What?! Yes, it is true!) Eating here is a true experience!
The food is tasty and magnificently wholesome.
5.You Will Feel Welcome
There is no other way to describe my parents and their staff than down-to-earth (plat-op-die-aarde mense). They will welcome you with open arms and a smile, my dad might even tell a few jokes 😉
Another great thing about Bosduifklip is; it is child friendly. So you can invite all your friends & family with children 🙂
| Is this perhaps your dream wedding venue? |
I always tell my couples that they will just ‘know’ when they have arrived at their wedding venue.
This is the venue for you if; you want something different for your wedding, you love nature and being outside, you want to dance bare feet under the stars, you want a bohemian, rustic or down-to-earth wedding, you want to dine under a full moon, want a chilled laid back wedding.
*Don’t get me wrong, this venue could totally be decorated to suit a black-tie wedding, but it will still have the rustic features of the rock and wooden tables.
A few words from Aletta & Kobus about why they love hosting weddings: “We love hosting weddings here at Bosduifklip, because we believe in love. The miracle of two people meeting each other and falling in love is just pure magic. We love being part of the whole planning journey and all the excitement. The joyous wedding day with the couple’s family & friends who travel from all across the world to be at their wedding, makes it even more special”
The word ‘unique’ does not give justice to Bosduifklip, but the definition of the word unique does: being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else.
Yes, Bosduifklip is truly a one-of-a-kind wedding venue, unlike anywhere else…
