Tom & Katharine

“I think I first had an inkling that Tom was ‘The One’ on our first date…”

I loved every moment and detail of Tom & Katharine’s wedding. And their first dance was so special! 🙂

How did Tom propose? – “The day before he proposed, Tom told me to pack an overnight bag as we were going away for the night just to have some time alone together before Christmas arrived and before we were moving to Johannesburg. I had no idea where we were going. We arrived in Greyton – a beautiful little town that we had visited on two previous occasions (the first was when we did a trail running race together there and the second was a weekend away that we spent there when we did a hike through the nature reserve and quite by chance came upon a beautiful waterfall where we swam in icy cold water but the experience was worth it!). Upon arriving in Greyton we checked into a beautiful boutique hotel and spent the afternoon having lunch, massages, drinking tea and colouring in mandalas before we went out for dinner. I started to wonder if perhaps he might propose over dinner but this did not occur so I did not think the proposal was happening during our stay. The next morning we went for another hike in the nature reserve and we walked to the waterfall again where we had total privacy. Just before we got in the water for a swim, Tom asked me to stand on a perfectly flat rock next to the river. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We were both in tears. It was such an intimate moment for us surrounded by absolute natural beauty. “

Their advice for couple’s planning their wedding: “Don’t rush decisions and try not to make emotional decisions. Choosing the bridal party is especially important and clarifying emotional and logistical expectations as early as possible will be really beneficial to all involved. Try to remember, you’re getting married, not wedding’ed! The day should be about creating something special and memorable for you and your partner.”

“When we had our first dance lesson and we were practicing lifts. We really had to trust each other and focus on each other and it felt like that moment was ours and ours alone. It seemed to hone in the focus of us as a unit, working together as a time, trying through the hard times and laughing through the good times.”
